Silence Is Golden

19 11 2009

Growing up I was constantly in fights, insecurity ran my life and if I had a reason or excuse to fight…I would. Looking back stupidity is a vast understatement, I am disappointed at my approach to life and all the time I wasted “defending myself?”
I was reading in 1 Peter and a novel concept dawned on me. 1 Peter 2:22-23, The Message version,

” 22 He never did one thing wrong.
Not once said anything amiss. 23 They called him every name in the book and he said nothing back. He suffered in silence, content to let God set things right.”

This excerpt is talking about Jesus and the way He handled His business. It is a valuable expression of the faith that Jesus has in God. If Jesus drank juice He was called a drunkard, if He ate bread He was accused of being a glutton and to this day was the only man in history to have an entourage of religious people follow Him around for the sole purpose of picking apart His life, in hopes of finding Him to be a fraud.

What if people who claim to have faith spent less time trying to set things straight with others who slam them and trusted God to take care of it? What if our faith was so intense that when someone was calling us names, throwing rocks or racial slanders, we just kept stepping towards our destination, not wasting a moment to look back? What if our faith was so passionate that we were more concerned with how others view God then how they view us? God doesn’t need us to defend Him, all He asks is for us to be obedient and represent Him. After all, He’s been around long before time began and He’s still here…and in the center of all controversy, He knows what He’s doing. I’m just sayin’.
